Teaching

My teaching style depends upon the goals and needs of the individual.

I train students in the fundamentals of strong technique and good musicianship, including sight reading and the development of the ability to play by ear.  Students learn intelligent practice methods, compositional thinking, and the application of basic arranging principles, as well as a creative approach to music –making.

Harp Days

Several times a year students are welcome to take part in our “Harp Days”.

Students present individual solos, and all join together to perform one or more group pieces. In addition to helping develop listening and ensemble skills, our Harp Days greatly encourage a real sense of community among young harpists.

Our most recent Harp Days have featured creative presentations of stories accompanied to music, involving a mixture of improvisation, solo pieces, underscoring, and ensembles.  The combination of the sense of being part of a bigger whole along with the tremendous fun has made these a truly wonderful experience.
